TOEFL is an abbreviated word that stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language™. It’s administered worldwide by ETS (Educational Testing Service), a nonprofit organization that’s based in the United States. Each section of the iBT is worth 30 points, for a total of 120 points. Check with the college or university you are applying to for their score requirements; each school will have their own individual guidelines.

Please note that the speaking section of the test only applies to the TOEFL iBT. This is the de-facto standard for almost all TOEFL tests, but some select areas of the world may only be equipped to provide CBT (computer-based) or PBT (paper-based) tests.
