Many international students come to the U.S. to obtain higher education; however, many learners need to work while they are here, as well. In order to fill a need for more entry-level employees in Minot, Montana, a number of resorts are hiring international students, The Minot Daily News reports.
This year, learners from Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, China and Taiwan are working and studying in Minot through arrangements made by United Work and Travel.
"These kids all have such a desire to work and go above and beyond," Wendy Rupert, manager at The Vegas, told the news source. "I can't speak highly enough about these kids. Their work ethic is above reproach. They are willing to work overtime, they are always up for a new experience and want to learn about American culture."
To be eligible for the exchange, applicants must be full-time university students who hold a B average, are conversational in English and can function in an English-speaking society.
The number of international students who are enrolled for the first time at a U.S. college or university increased by 16 percent in the fall of 2008, according to the Institute of International Education.
