International students who enroll in U.S. community colleges may have a chance to learn about American customs and academic approaches to different scholarly disciplines through a variety of activities.
They will gain this knowledge not only in the classroom and the library, but also by participating in a range of extracurricular events that often accompany big academic projects.
Such events may include conferences, speaker series and resources fairs, some of which may be open to the public and allow students to mix and mingle with the wider community.
One of such events will take place this weekend and early next week at the Danville Community College in Virginia, and will focus on best practices in early childhood education.
On the first day of the program, more than 20 exhibitors will provide information, activities and door prizes to families and children attending the event, and DCC students will be available to answer questions about the early childhood education program and will participate in the activities with the children, according to Altavista Journal.
Estimates suggest that community colleges enroll more than 6 million U.S. undergraduates. They are some of the most diverse academic institutions, enrolling international students who come from more than 95 countries and speak 75 different languages.
